Apple could announce a new iPhone SE next week, according to Bloomberg. The new device, code-named V59, will reportedly resemble the iPhone 14 and feature Apple Intelligence. Apple released the current version of the iPhone SE in 2022, which features the home button and no Face ID. The new model is expected to bring a major overhaul. It could be enticing for overseas markets in China, India, and other parts of Asia where Apple hopes to grow its business.
There are indications that a new iPhone SE is on the way. The current iPhone SE is barely available in Apple retail stores in the US. In some configurations, the device is still available for purchase on Apple’s online store. In the EU, Apple discontinued the current SE model and the iPhone 14 because the devices do not comply with the EU’s USB-C charging standard. Apple’s new iPhone SE is expected to feature the USB-C port like its latest iPhone models, making the new iPhone SE available in the EU.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple will unveil the new iPhone SE on its website, and a launch event is not expected. Apple announced the current iPhone SE in 2022 for $429, but the company may increase the new model’s price due to its latest features. Nevertheless, the new iPhone SE is still expected to cost hundreds less than the iPhone 16, at $799, allowing Apple to compete with entry-level smartphones from Google and Samsung.
The A18 chip will power the new iPhone SE, and it is expected to be Apple’s first device with its in-house cellular modem, replacing the Qualcomm chips. It will feature a larger screen with Face ID and could have a notch with the Dynamic Island.
Apple is also planning a significant overhaul of its iPhone lineup, and the upcoming iPhone 17 models are expected to feature significant updates with a new ultrathin version.
