You Can Now Add Music to Your WhatsApp Status

WhatsApp will now let you add music to your status updates, just like you can add music to your Stories on Instagram and Facebook. The feature is rolling out globally, and the company says it is “working hard to make sure it’s available to everyone as soon as possible.”

Adding music to your WhatsApp status updates is easy. When you select a photo, video or text in the status screen, you will now see a music note icon at the top. Tapping on the music icon will let you search for a song or select from a list of popular songs in your country. Alternatively, you can create a status with music from someone else’s status. When you view a status with a music update, tap on the song’s name at the top of the status. You can also tap the Add a status with music button in the open menu.

WhatsApp says its music library has “millions of songs to choose from”. Like on Instagram and Facebook, users can select the exact part of a song they want added to their status. Keep in mind that if you are adding music to an image, your status will last up to 15 seconds. If you’re adding music to a video, your status will last for the duration of the video and up to a maximum of 60 seconds.

You can also learn more about the artist of a song on someone else’s status. Tap on the song and then the three-dotted icon > View Artist to learn more about the artist.

Your status updates with music remain end-to-end encrypted, and WhatsApp can’t see what songs you add to them.
