Design and Build Quality

The Camon 19 Pro feels premium and elegant in terms of design. It has a matte textured back panel that TECNO describes as having a diamond coating of 200 million stars like a bright starry sky.

The back of the phone, which is smudge resistant, has two large circular bumps housing the triple rear cameras. On the right-hand side, we have the volume rockers and a power button that doubles up as a fingerprint scanner. The SIM card tray houses the dual Nano-SIM with a dedicated micro-SD on the left-hand side. We just have a mic up top, and there is a 3.5mm audio jack, USB type C input and a bottom-firing speaker opening at the basement.

It comes in various colours to match any outfit, and holding the phone is comfortable to carry around; you can easily slip it into your pocket.

Display

Regarding the display, TECNO Camon 19 Pro has a 6.8 inches LCD panel which is a downgrade compared to its predecessor – the Camon 18 Premier. The phone’s screen resolution is 1080 pixels, display density of 395 pixels per inch and a refresh rate of 120Hz, making scrolling smooth, and supporting a good immersive display and gaming experience. It comes with a 0.98mm slim bezel, the slimmest ever launched for any flat screen device. For this reason, CAMON 19 Pro recently won the world-renowned iF Design Award, where it was praised for its incredibly 0.98mm slim bezel and its dual-ring, triple-camera layout.

The display is bright and colourful for indoor and outdoor use, with a large screen for watching movies, reading and playing games.

Camera

The unique selling point of the Camon 19 Pro is its 64MP bright night portrait camera. I don’t think any smartphone in this price range can take bright Portrait shots, even in a dark environment.

CAMON 19 camera is designed to overcome the traditional challenges associated with photography, and TECNO has put in a lot of work to achieve this. The rear triple camera packs a 64 MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 50MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom, and 2MP depth sensor, while the front-facing camera is 32 MP. The first circular bump houses the main 64MP camera, while the second houses the 50 MP telephoto and 2 MP depth lenses.

You will love the Sky Shop feature if you take many outdoor pictures. This camera option uses AI to change the sky to different scenes, and it looks real. Other interesting camera app features include super night, AR shot, short video mode, and many more.

For video recording, both front-facing and rear cameras are equally good. The maximum video quality on the phone is 2k at 30 frames per second for the cameras. The Camon 19 Pro is far better than its predecessor in the camera department, except for the absence of a gimbal camera.

Hardware and Software Performance

Camon 19 Pro is powered by an Helio G96, Octa-Core processor with 8GB RAM size. In terms of storage capacity, the phone comes with a 256 GB ROM and an expandable memory capacity through a micro-SD card.

In day-to-day use, the overall performance of the Camon 19 Pro is impressive and did not lag or stutter during our testing period. The phone has the capability to perform higher task such as playing hardcore games and running any graphics-intensive application.

We also played with the virtual RAM feature named by TECNO – MemFusion. This feature was first launched on the Spark 8C and is also available in the Spark 9 series, it allows you extend the Camon 19 Pro 8GB RAM by up to 5GB more in virtual RAM.

To test the performance, we ran some tests on Geekbench 5 for the TECNO Camon 19 Pro and below are the results.

On the software side, the Camon 19 runs on Google’s latest operating system, Android 12 and is backed by the latest version of TECNO custom operating system – HiOS 8.6. TECNO improved the overall user experience of the Camon 19 Pro by upgrading the gaming, privacy and productivity features on the recently launched HiOS 8.6.

Gaming Performance

Looking at the gaming performance, the Camon 19 Pro does great. I played Dream League Soccer 2022 and Rise of Empires on the phone, and it was lag free and had no heating. The audio quality of the smartphone was particularly great while playing games but could have produced better sound if it had a stereos speaker.

Long Battery Life and very Fast Charging

TECNO Camon 19 Pro comes with a 5,000mAh battery and is powered through a USB type C port, which supports a 33W fast charge. The Flash Charge technology means the phone battery can go from 0-100 per cent in under an hour. The battery life is very good; with a full charge, the battery capacity can last up to a day for heavy phone usage and up to 40 hours on moderate use without charging.

Connectivity and Audio

You get 2G, 3G or 4G in terms of network connectivity. TECNO also launched a 5G smartphone – Camon 19 Po 5G. If you are interested in exploring a phone with a 5G network, you should check it out. There is also support for FM Radio, WIFI, Bluetooth 5.0 and a 3.5mm audio jack. Most of the games and apps were downloaded with the phone WIFI and there was no issue during and after connection.

A USB Type-C port for charging and transferring files to your laptop has been made available. The MTN 4G LTE SIM used for the review had a good signal strength without any challenge while calling or using the internet.

The bottom firing mono speaker of the Camon 19 Pro is loud enough with good quality while playing music or games.

Privacy and Security
