Housemarque, the studio behind Returnal, is working on a new game, Saros, which will be released in 2026 for the PS5 and PS5 Pro. The upcoming project is a third-person action roguelike that builds on Returnal‘s gameplay mechanism.
“Saros is an action game with the haunting story of a lost off-world colony on Carcosa under an ominous eclipse,” creative director at Housemarque, Gregory Louden announced in a PlayStation blog post. “You play as Arjun Devraj, a powerful Soltari Enforcer who will stop at nothing to find who he is looking for. Our goal is to create an emotional and powerful character study that explores the cost it takes to create a new future.”
The charismatic Rahul Kohli plays the game’s protagonist, Arjun Devraj. Kohli is known for starring in Mike Flanagan’s horror series; Midnight Mass and The Fall of the House of Usher.
Saros builds on the gameplay style from Returnal, and every death in the game provides permanent resources and progression. Players will see a changed world after every death, but they will have the option to choose and permanently upgrade their loadout from an evolving armoury and suit upgrades, giving them the power to return and overcome challenges in Carcosa.
There is no word on the exact release date, but the studio has promised a first look at an extended gameplay “later this year.”
