Instagram Introduces Enhanced Tags for Proper Creator Crediting

Instagram wants “marginalized and underrepresented creators and collaborators whose contributions are often behind the scenes” to be known and the company is introducing enhanced tags to make this work. Starting today, creators will have a new way to give proper credit to other creators through enhanced tags.

“For many Black and underrepresented creators, crediting is an entryway to building a sustainable career as a creator, while combating cultural appropriation and ensuring the world knows who is driving culture,” the company announced in a blog post.

With enhanced tags, the tag accounts will not only show the profile username but also the creator’s self-designated category, those who tap on the tag will quickly see what the tagged account(s) does or what type of contribution the tagged creator has made to a specific photo or video.

To use the new tagging option, make a new upload (photo/video) like you normally would using the (+) in the top right corner of the Instagram home page. Tap on Next, apply any edit you want, and tap on Next again. When you are done making a caption, tap Tag People, search all contributors you want to tag and select them, tap Show Profile Category – this will allow the creator’s self-designated category to be shown when the tag is made and the post is finally shared.

Until now, some creators found a way to give credit in the caption of a post by mentioning all contributors involved and the role they played, this took a lot of time. With enhanced tags, creators can easily tag collaborators and give them deserved visibility.
