Canon Selphy CP1200 Review – Wireless Compact Printer

canon selphy cp1200 review

The Canon Selphy CP1200 is in line with the new generation of portable printers that delivers high quality post-card sized photos. It’s a compact photo printer with great features such as image optimizer, red-eye correction, scene detection, borderless printing, brightness correction, cropping, date print and smooth skin. Having used the device for some weeks, I have decided to write a review on it.

The Canon Selphy CP1200 Review and First Impressions

In the box, you’re greeted with the portable printer, an 18-sheet paper tray, a power pack and an extra plug, just in case the 3-pin doesn’t cut it.

On top of the CP1200, you have a 2.7-inch color LCD that tilts up roughly 45 degrees from the top of the body and buttons for powering on/off, navigating and tinkering with the settings. Buttons are clicky and give you substantial feedback.

The Selphy CP paper and Ink cartridges come in one bundle but doesn’t ship along side the printer so you have to purchase that separately. The box comes in 4 ink cartridges and 4 18-sheet paper bundles.

The Selphy CP1200 was way easier to set up than i expected. Of course, you should read the user manual before you set up any device but we have you covered if user manuals aren’t your thing. Here are the steps you need to follow.

Canon Selphy CP1200 Review – How to Use

The first thing you want to do is insert your ink cartridge into the slot on the right side of your printer. It can only go in one way so look for the direction marking. The goal is to insert it without damaging the fragile film on the Ink cartridge.

Open your paper tray by lifting the 2 lids and place your paper (blank face up) in. Close lid 1 and leave lid 2 falling back wards. Now insert the open end of the paper tray into the front entrance of your printer, you’d feel a very light click to let you know it’s in place.

Connecting to Power Source

Plug in both ends of your power adapter to your printer and power socket respectively. Press and hold the power button on the printer to turn it on. Be sure to leave a space at the back of your printer as your paper goes back and forth 4 times before your printing is done

Connectivity Options

You get a lot of connectivity options, so you can print from a PC, smartphone, tablet, thumb drive or memory card.

Canon Selphy CP1200 connectivity options

For the purpose of this review I’d be taking the one that you’d more likely use as a millennial.  Connect to a Wi-Fi network by clicking MENU > Wi-Fi Settings > Connect to Wi-Fi Network > Select Wi-Fi Name > Input Password > OK

Connect your smartphone/PC to the same WiFi network.

Using the Compact Photo Printer

Find the picture you wish to print.  Use arrow up Key for iOS, options for Android to find the option to print.

Select printer from the options. You can input number of copies and then Print.

On your PC, it’s business as usual; File > Print or Ctrl + P on the photo that you wish to print

It takes about a minute and a half to print one copy.

Printing at up to 300 by 300 dpi, with 256 levels of color, the CP1200 made high-quality prints across the board. Colors looked accurate and pleasingly saturated.

The output has a glossy texture like a proper picture on default settings. There was very little glare under direct sunlight and it seems water proof.

It is worth mentioning that the Selphy Cp1200 has a latch at the back capable of holding a rechargeable battery(sold separately) that could power the entire thing. On a full charge, it is said to be capable of printing 36 sheets of postcard-size paper.

As soon as the Canon Selphy CP1200 becomes a household item, there’d be very little need for hard copies being collected at events or printing passport sized photographs in business centers anymore. It does save you some money in the long run. If you want good-looking prints when you’re out and about, the portable Canon Selphy CP1200 photo printer is a good choice: It produces high-quality borderless photos of up to 4 by 6 inches and offers a lot of features for around N40,000.
