Apple on Monday announced the AirPods Max 2, the successor to the AirPods Max headphone released in 2020. The new headphones feature improved sound quality, better active noise cancellation (ANC), and intelligent features.
The design of the AirPods Max 2 is much the same as its predecessor, with the improvements coming from the software thanks to the H2 chip. Apple says the new headphones deliver up to 1.5x better ANC over the previous generation. Thanks to the H2 chip, there is a new digital signal processing that makes Transparency sounds more natural, so users are fully aware of their environment when wearing the headphones.

Apple says the AirPods Max 2 feature a new dynamic range amplifier, which makes audio cleaner and better. The headphones support 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio when connected with the included USB-C cable. Apple says AirPods Max are the only headphones in the market that support personalised Spatial Audio with head tracking.
Other intelligent features powered by the H2 chip include Adaptive Audio, which automatically adjusts ANC and Transparency levels in response to the environment, Conversational Awareness, which controls audio volume and background noise when a user starts speaking nearby, Live Translation, which is powered by Apple Intelligence, Siri interactions, and many more.
The Digital Crown on the headphones can now be used as a camera remote when pressed to take photos or record videos on the iPhone or iPad.
AirPods Max 2 cost $549 just like the AirPods Max. It will be available to order starting March 25 in midnight, starlight, orange, purple, and blue colours. Availability begins “early next month”.
