Xiaomi today announced Mi Air Charge Technology. The company says its new wireless technology will enable users to remotely charge electronic devices without having to move around with cable or wireless charging stands.
In a blog post, Xiaomi says the “technology is capable of 5-watt remote charging for a single device within a radius of several meters. Apart from that, multiple devices can also be charged at the same time (each device supports 5 watts), and even physical obstacles do not reduce the charging efficiency.”
While explaining how the technology works, Xiaomi showcased a large transmitter in a living room. The transmitter provides a 5W charge wirelessly to smartphones. Xiaomi has big plans for its Mi Air Charge and promises it will be able to charge wearables in the future.
“In the near future, Xiaomi’s self-developed space isolation charging technology will also be able to work with smart watches, bracelets and other wearable devices,” the company revealed in the blog post. “Soon our living room devices, including speakers, desk lamps and other small smart home products, will all be built upon a wireless power supply design, completely free of wires, making our living rooms truly wireless.”
Xiaomi did not reveal the release date for its wireless charging solution and it is not clear yet which markets it would be sold.
