WhatsApp’s Writing Help AI Assistant Will Help You Adjust the Tone of Your Messages

WhatsApp is introducing a new AI writing assistant feature that will help you set the right tone for your messages, in case you are struggling for words. The new feature called “Writing Help” is powered by Meta’s Private Processing technology that keeps your messages “completely private,” the company announced on Wednesday.

To use Writing Help, start typing or draft a new message in a private or group chat, and then tap on a new pencil icon to use the feature. In a product image shared by WhatsApp, Writing Help can rephrase messages and change the tone to be professional, funny, or supportive.

The product image showcased the user’s original message, which reads: “please don’t leave dirty socks on sofa.” Writing Help then gave three funny suggestions: “Please don’t make the sofa a sock graveyard,” “Breaking news: socks found chilling on the couch. Please move them,” and “Hey, sock ninja, laundry basket is that way!”

While some users will prefer to be original with their messages, others will definitely use the AI feature. Indirectly, Meta will be hoping to keep people on its platform instead of going to third-party platforms like ChatGPT for the same feature.

Writing Help is rolling out in English to users in the US and select countries. Meta says it hopes to bring it to other languages and countries “later this year.”
