WhatsApp has officially rolled out support for customisable avatars. The feature has been available on Meta platforms – Facebook, Instagram, and its VR system, for a while, but it is now available on WhatsApp.

Your avatar is a digital version of you that can be created from billions of combinations of diverse hairstyles, facial features, and outfits,” WhatsApp announced in a blog post. “On WhatsApp you can now use your personalized avatar as your profile photo or choose from one of 36 custom stickers reflecting many different emotions and actions.”

Virtual avatars can be created from the sticker section on WhatsApp, and it has many customizable options for users. WhatsApp says it will continue to add style enhancements like lighting, shading, hairstyle textures, “and more that will make avatars even better over time.”

As Meta continues to build on its metaverse, making avatars available across its platform looks like a step in the right direction since these virtual characters will represent people in the metaverse.
