Last Monday, TikTok announced the addition of Buy Direct and Shopping Assistant to its platform so as to make transactions frictionless between brands and users.
With Buy Direct, users can make purchases directly from the For You feed and checkout in-app with just a click without leaving the TikTok app.
Built into several TikTok touchpoints, TikTok says Shopping Assistant is a conversational AI agent that understands and remembers each user’s needs. It is designed to guide users through the shopping journey by finding and recommending the right products for them. The company says Shopping Assistant provides real-time AI-powered guidance, including product details, shipping, sizing, and availability, and eventually completing a purchase.

TikTok says the new agentic commerce shopping experiences are built in partnership with trusted platforms such as Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza, Stripe, and many more.
With Buy Direct and Shopping Assistant, TikTok wants to keep its users on the platform not just as a primary social media platform but also as a place where users can trust when looking to find products and make purchases.
The new features are no surprise as the company looks to consolidate its importance in the commerce space. According to its recently released Economic Impact Report, 54 million Americans made a product purchase after watching a TikTok video. The report also revealed that economic activity on TikTok helped generate $81 billion in GDP for U.S. businesses.
