Rockstar Games Releases Statement Following Series of GTA VI Leaks

Ahead of the GTA VI “extended look,” which premieres on Netflix on Thursday, August 27, Rockstar Games has released a statement addressing the series of leaks that have spread across several social media platforms over the past week.

“We know that many of you have been waiting to hear from us regarding the events of the past week,” Rockstar shared in a statement on X. “It would be an understatement to say that having videos of Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team, and this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time.”

The developer shared that the game is “nearly” finished, but apologised that “everything has taken as long as it has” to share official gameplay and more information with the community.

“We are very excited for everyone to see the extended look tomorrow. It has taken longer than we wanted to get it ready, but as with everything we do, we know we need to exceed your expectations, and we are determined to deliver at the level you expect and desire,” the statement continued.

Rockstar acknowledged that the “intended gameplay experience” may have been impacted by “some spoilers” from the leaks, but pleads with players to wait “a bit longer” to experience the full game experience by themselves when it finally launches on November 19.

“We want to thank everyone in the community who has reached out with messages of support this past week – your words have meant more to this team than you can imagine. Ultimately, we are making this game for you, and without you, we would not have the privilege of making games,” the statement finishes.

A leaker group, named CyberLeek, has claimed responsibility for several gameplay clips of the upcoming GTA VI which have been circulating online over the past few days. Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of developer Rockstar Games, has taken legal action and filed subpoenas requesting that Discord and Microsoft share information in the hope of identifying the leakers, but their identity is still unknown.
