Sony’s New Revamped PlayStation Plus Service Launches June 13th in the US

When Sony announced its new three-tier PlayStation Plus subscription service in June, it said it was targeting a June launch date. On Friday, the company announced specific launch dates for the subscription service.

The revamped PlayStation Plus plan – PlayStation Plus Essential, PlayStation Plus Extra and PlayStation Plus Premium will first go live in Asia (excluding Japan) on May 23rd. The service will launch in Japan on June 1st, in the Americas on June 13th and on June 22nd in Europe.

PlayStation Plus Essential has the same offerings as the existing PlayStation Plus subscription. This plan includes two monthly downloadable games, exclusive discounts, cloud storage for saved games, and online multiplayer access. The prices remain the same as the existing PS Plus service: $9.99 monthly / $24.99 quarterly / $59.99 yearly in the US, €8.99 monthly / €24.99 quarterly / €59.99 yearly in Europe, £6.99 monthly / £19.99 quarterly / £49.99 yearly in the UK, and ¥850 monthly / ¥2,150 quarterly / ¥5,143 yearly in Japan.

The second tier, PlayStation Plus Extra includes everything from Essential and adds a library of up to 400 PS4 and PS5 downloadable games. At launch, games from PlayStation Studious will come with the Extra tier. Sony will continue to add more titles on a regular basis. PlayStation Plus Extra will cost: $14.99 monthly / $39.99 quarterly / $99.99 yearly in the US, €13.99 monthly / €39.99 quarterly / €99.99 yearly in Europe, £10.99 monthly / £31.99 quarterly / £83.99 yearly in the UK, and ¥1,300 monthly / ¥3,600 quarterly / ¥8,600 yearly in Japan.

The Premium plan which is the most expensive offers all benefits of Essential and Extra, plus an additional 340 games that include time-limited game trials, PS3 and PS4 games via cloud streaming, and classic games from PS1, PS2 and PSP (can be streamed or downloaded. PlayStation Plus Premium will cost: $17.99 monthly / $49.99 quarterly / $119.99 yearly in the US, €16.99 monthly / €49.99 quarterly / €119.99 yearly in Europe, £13.49 monthly / £39.99 quarterly / £99.99 yearly in the UK, and ¥1,550 monthly / ¥4,300 quarterly / ¥10,250 yearly in Japan.

Sony is also expanding its cloud streaming service to 30 new markets. At launch, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Republic of Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia will offer access to the PlayStation Plus Premium plan.
