As the global memory crisis deepens, Nintendo on Friday announced price increases for its Switch 2 consoles. The company cited “changes in market conditions” as well as consideration for its “global business outlook” for the decision. The price increases will become effective from the beginning of September, and it affects consumers in the US, Canada, Japan, and Europe.

Below are the price changes:

  • US – from $449.99 to $499.99
  • Canada – from $629.99 to $679.99
  • Europe – from €469.99 to €499.99

In Japan, the price increase for the Switch 2 is effective May 25, and it is increasing from ¥49,980 to ¥59,980. The price increase from Nintendo is still less than the $150 Sony applied to its PS5 console recently. “We sincerely apologize for the impact these price revisions may have on our customers and other stakeholders, and we deeply appreciate your understanding,” the company said.

As part of its latest earnings report, Nintendo announced that the Switch 2 has now sold a total of 19.68 million units. The company achieved the figure by shipping 2.49 million units this quarter. Earlier in February, the company revealed it had sold 17.37 million units of the Switch 2. Nevertheless, Nintendo has lowered its forecast for the next fiscal year.

“For Nintendo Switch 2, sales were more concentrated in the launch year in comparison to previous hardware systems,” Nintendo said in its latest earnings report. “Reflecting strong launch-year sales and price revisions, we expect FY27 sales units to decline year-on-year.

Nintendo is forecasting 16.5 million units of the Switch 2 will be sold in the next fiscal year, and it believes this “represents a solid level of adoption” of the console in its second year after launch.

Software sales went up year-over-year, with sales of 185.62 million units (Switch 2 and Switch combined) compared to 155.41 million units in fiscal year 2025. For Switch 2 games, Mario Kart World has now sold 14.70 million units, while Donkey Kong Bananza has sold 4.52 million units.
