After announcing The Last of Us Part I will be getting a remake for the PS5 at the Summer Game Fest, fans have been looking to developer Naughty Dog to justify why they should spend $70 for a game that was originally released on the PlayStation 3 in 2013. In a new 10-minute clip, the studio showcased improvements to the game, and new features players can expect to see.

The Last of Us Part I will be playable at native 4K targeting 30fps or dynamic 4k at 60fps on the PS5. The game will also support DualSense controller features such as haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and 3D audio. Naughty Dog said it listened to fan requests and added a permadeath mode, a speed-run focused mode, and some new unlockable costumes for Joel and Ellie. The Last of Us Part II was praised for its detailed accessibility options, and the studio is bringing all that to The Last of Us Part I remake and a new audio description mode during cutscenes.

From the art direction to the character models, the entire game has been rebuilt from the ground up to take advantage of a new generation of graphical capability, allowing this game to reach the visual fidelity that the studio aspired for when crafting this experience,” Senior Director at Sony Interactive Entertainment Sid Shuman wrote in a PlayStation blog post. “Further, AI upgrades mean that characters inhabit the world in a more authentic and realistic way, such as buddy characters navigating cover to avoid enemy NPC sightlines more authentically,” he added.

The game launches on the PS5 on September 2nd and is currently in development for PC.
