Instagram Will Continue Being More Video-Centric

If you are fed up with how Instagram is changing from what it used to be, you might have to stop using the application. In a video shared on Twitter, Instagram head Adam Mosseri says “more and more” of what used to be a photo-sharing platform “is going to become video over time.”

Mosseri shared the video in response to the recent backlash the company has been getting from users about recent changes, including criticism from high-profile users Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner about “trying to be TikTok.” Instagram is currently testing a TikTok-like full-screen feed format among a “few percentage of people,” Mosseri says the company will continue working on this to make it good before shipping it to all users on Instagram.

Mosseri also spoke about recommendations. Recommendations are posts in your feeds from accounts you do not follow; many people find this annoying, but Mosseri says this is not stopping anytime soon. “We’re going to continue to try and get better at recommendations because we think it’s one of the most effective and important ways to help creators reach more people,” the company head explained in a video shared on Twitter.

Meta is known to copy features from other social platforms it sees as a threat, and the company is trying its best to ensure it keeps up with the rapidly growing TikTok. According to Mosseri, Instagram will continue changing from what it used to be, and dissatisfied users will have to adapt to these changes or find an alternative.
