Previously announced under the codename “Project Orion”, the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, which CD Projekt Red (CDPR) is now calling Cyberpunk 2, has officially moved from conceptual phase to pre-production. CDPR announced as part of its latest earnings report on Wednesday.
Nothing else has been shared about the sequel, and it is unclear whether the story will continue from where it ended for Cyberpunk 2077 or if a new protagonist will be introduced. However, Cyberpunk 2 has not been confirmed as the official name. In a statement to The Verge, Ola Sondej, senior PR manager at CDPR, said, “‘Cyberpunk 2’ just means it’s another game in the Cyberpunk universe.”
In its latest earnings report, the company announced it made 226 million PLN in consolidated sales revenue and 86 million PLN in net profit. First-quarter results were boosted by strong sales of Cyberpunk 2077 and its Phantom Liberty expansion. The Phantom Liberty expansion has now sold more than 10 million copies in total, while CDPR is also gearing up to release Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition as a launch title on the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5th.
This May marks the 10th anniversary of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The game has now sold more than 60 million copies, CDPR says, making it one of the best-selling video games of all time.
