Polish gaming studio CD Projekt Red has indefinitely postponed the release of the next-gen update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The update was originally scheduled to be released in 2021 before it was delayed till the second quarter of 2022, with the announcement today it is no longer clear when the next-gen update will be available.

We have decided to have our in-house development team conduct the remaining work on the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,” CDPR announced via The Witcher Twitter account. “We are currently evaluating the scope of work to be done and thus have to postpone Q2 release until further notice. We’ll update you as soon as we can. Thank you for your understanding.”

When the next-gen update was first announced, CDPR promised “a range of visual and technical improvements, including ray tracing and faster loading times — across the base game, both expansions, and all extra content.” Last year during the WitcherCon, the studio announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be getting free DLCs inspired by the Netflix show. In February, the studio released the next-gen update for Cyberpunk 2077 which was riddled with bugs when it originally launched in 2020.

In March, CDPR announced it was working on a new Witcher game which will be powered by Epic Games’ UnrealEngine 5 but did not provide further updates on its development timeframe or release date.
