The same day it announced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max on Wednesday at its Surprise and Shine event, Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo, marking the debut of the tech giant’s first foldable iPhone. The flagship device features a dual Super Retina XDR display setup, an ultra-thin hardware architecture, and is powered by the new A20 Pro chip with Apple Intelligence.
Opened, the iPhone Duo stands as the thinnest iPhone ever made, sporting a 7.6-inch inner display that provides an expansive canvas for multitasking, gaming, and media consumption. Closed, it folds down into a pocketable form factor with a 5.4-inch outer display that provides 90 percent of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro. Both screens feature ProMotion, Always On, up to 3,000 nits of peak outdoor brightness, and share the same aspect ratio for consistent scaling. Apple has also applied a custom nano-texture finish to reduce glare and minimize crease visibility, alongside adding future support for Apple Pencil with USB-C later this year.
In terms of build and durability, the iPhone Duo is crafted from mirror-polished grade 5 titanium and comes in two finishes: star white and night sky. The phone includes an IP68 rating for splash, water, and dust resistance, protected by Ceramic Shield on the back and Ceramic Shield 2 on the outer screen with 3x better scratch resistance. The precision hinge is engineered from over 100 components alongside carbon fiber support plates, utilizing custom internal adhesives that allow display layers to glide smoothly like pages in a book during folding.
The iPhone Duo introduces an advanced camera setup led by a 48MP Fusion Main camera featuring zero shutter lag, sensor-shift optical image stabilization, and an integrated optical-quality 2x Telephoto. It is paired with a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera and benefits from updated Photographic Styles with new texture and grain controls. Hidden discreetly beneath the inner display is an under-display FaceTime camera that stays invisible when not in use. Touch ID is built into the side button for quick authentication, whether open or closed, alongside a Camera Control button supporting the new Siri Camera mode.
Under the hood, the iPhone Duo is powered by the A20 Pro chip paired with an advanced thermal system that incorporates a custom vapor chamber and a dual-battery architecture to sustain pro performance and all-day battery life. It launches with a reimagined iOS 27 tailored for foldable hardware, enabling side-by-side app multitasking and deep integration with Apple Intelligence and Siri AI.
The iPhone Duo is available in Star White and Night Sky colours, and starts at $1,999 in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB storage capacities. Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo begin on Friday, October 16, with official availability starting on Friday, October 23.
