Apple Confirms Slight Delay in iPhone 12 Arrival

Tim Cook, Apple - WWDC 2019

This year’s new iPhones will not be arriving in September, Apple has confirmed. The launch event may still take place in September but the shipments of the iPhone 12 won’t begin till a few weeks later. “Last year we started selling new iPhones in late September, this year we expect supply to be available a few weeks later,” reveals Apple CFO Luca Maestri in an earnings call for the third fiscal quarter of 2020 with investors.

There had been rumours of a delay and The Wall Street Journal had already reported the arrival of the new iPhones by nearly a month. Though Maestri didn’t give any particular reason, Qualcomm is citing “partial impact from the delay of a global 5G flagship phone launch” for its fourth quarter projections.

Apple normally unveils its new iPhones in September and the launch event could yet take place. In 2017, Apple announced the iPhone X in September but it didn’t start shipping till November due to production issues. The same thing happened with the iPhone XR which didn’t arrive till October. Barring any difficulties, Apple normally ships new iPhones before the end of September.
