The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro Max are official. Apple unveiled its newest Pro iPhones on Tuesday, and they come with a new design, a powerful A19 Pro chip, an upgraded camera, and better battery life over last year’s Pro models.
The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro Max feature a new aluminium unibody design in three colours – deep blue, a new cosmic orange, and silver. Apple says the new Pro models have the “best-ever thermal performance” in any iPhone, thanks to the latest design architecture. The improved design also creates space for a larger battery, which works with the A19 Pro chip to deliver the best battery performance in an iPhone to date. At the back of the devices is a ceramic shield that is more crack-resistant than the glass used on previous Pro models.
Both phones have the Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion up to 120Hz, and 3,000 nits of peak brightness outdoors. The iPhone 17 Pro is available in a 6.3-inch size, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max has a 6.9-inch display size. The new Pro iPhones are powered by Apple’s A19 Pro chip, which provides up to 40 percent efficiency in performance over previous generations.
Apple has added a new N1 wireless networking chip that enables Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. The N1 also ensures reliability and improved performance when using AirDrop and Personal Hotspot.
Every year, Apple upgrades the camera of its new iPhones. The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro Max feature three rear upgraded 48MP cameras. At the front is a new Centre Stage camera that uses AI to expand the field of view when taking selfies automatically. Apple says the front and back cameras feature higher resolution sensors, which is equivalent to having eight pro lenses in your pocket.
In terms of storage, the iPhone 17 Pro will be available in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB sizes, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be available in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and, for the first time, 2TB storage sizes. Pricing for the Phone 17 Pro starts at $1,099, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max starts at $1,199. Pre-order begins on Friday, and the devices will be available in stores on September 19.
